Not quite gaming related...

This isn't quite gaming related but maybe we ARE the StarCraft Universe?

There has been recent news of a U.N. ambassador to extraterrestrial beings, the finding of an Earth-like planet, the confessions of numerous military personnel. All I know is, if shit really does hit the fan, I want to be a gundam or Thor pilot. You don't even know.

Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy 14, another FF MMORPG. Looks pretty awesome, too bad I'm too poor to buy it/subscribe, and I don't have any friends playing it either.

It's been awhile since I've played any Final Fantasy games, the last one being FFX, and it's been awhile since I've played an MMORPG, the last one being a combination of Fiesta and something else I can't recall at the moment. MMORPGs are getting pretty crazy and involved, almost like everyone is trying to compete with WoW, the ultimate life leecher.

Although I love playing MMORPGs, I haven't found one that I really got in to as much as Ragnarok Online or even Runescape (yeah, I know, but I started playing it before it was cool [only 2 servers and before they offered membership]). All the newer games I play I'll only play for a few weeks to a few months. RO, I played for a year or two, and then off and on after that.

Does anyone have any suggestions on an MMORPG to play that's free? I need something else other than StarCraft 2 or I'll get burnt out on it.

Leave a comment and tell me what to play!

Left 4 Dead 2

On my birthday, my friend bought me L4D2 because he wanted me to play with him. Since then I've played a total of 3 times. I don't understand that game. I mean, I would like to enjoy that game because I enjoy playing with my friend, but, it just seems so.. redundant. It's the same maps, with the same spawns. When I played it, it just seems like a giant crapshoot.

One can argue that all FPS's are similar because you play the same handful of maps, with the same objectives, but I argue that there is strategy involved, different playstyles. In L4D, however, that all seems to be missing. It seems to be, "RUN AROUND UNTIL YOU GET TO THE SAFE HOUSE" or "SPAWN EVERYWHERE AND TRY TO KILL THE SURVIVORS," and while there IS some strategy involved, its seems to be very lacking. I also know that I'm not the only one who feels this way, I played the game with my other friend and he feels the same way as I.

Left 4 Dead, I would like to get to you know, for the sake of my friendship, but I can't. I find you utterly boring. I'm sorry. Can we still be friends?

GG definitely nore

Pay Guides EVERYWHERE

I don't remember seeing any pay guides back in the days of SC and SC:BW, but now I see people selling compilations of strategies that will send buyers straight to "Diamond League" or "CAL-I" (if CAL still existed that is). What happened to people posting strategies to help others get better to help, or to make the community as a whole more challenging? Is it the bad economic times, or are people just getting greedier?

What makes it worse is that most of these guides are just filled with common sense that any gamer will learn after playing for a few weeks. And the more in-depth strategies are just stolen from other places/people but reworded. It's amazing.

I remember finding a few top teams' play books for Counter-Strike, those were actually worthwhile, however I also found some pay-guides that stole those plays and did not give due credit. I do recall a guide of some sort from NiP-HeaToN that actually had video clips of him demonstrating certain maneuvers, that was pretty cool.

Also, I haven't been around the MMORPG scene in a long time, but there are a lot of gold farmers, power levelers, and things of that sort. I miss the good ole days of honest gaming.

Counter-Strike Scrimming. BOO

Counter-Strike 1.6 (Source sucks), I thought we had something special. You were my go-to game. I actually thought I excelled at you. I know we haven't spoken in almost 2 years, I thought we'd still be okay, I thought our love transcended time. That is, until today. You broke my heart, 1.6. I tried scrimming at the request of some people who use my ventrilo server and you just ripped my heart out of my chest. I am crestfallen. I couldn't get a kill to save my life, literally. I spent a lot of time dead. Although I'm not as terrible as other people, I couldn't maintain my usual 2:1, to 3:1 ratio. In fact, I had a negative ratio, and with how "good" I used to be, that is just unacceptable. I'm going to go cry myself into a bucket of ice cream.

Starcraft 2, more like Starcraft POO

So, like everyone else in this world, I've been playing Starcraft 2 like a crack fiend smoking crack, since its release and I've been managing to get by on old school SC:BW strats, so uh, gg?

Whenever I play games after a long hiatus, I find it amusing to see how many people are still bad at a game. Sometimes, people are even worse than I remember.

Since this post is about Starcraft 2, we'll use it as our example. Back in SC:BW, we had Koreans EVERYWHERE, dominating the ladder and regular UMS melee maps. And they were scary. Now, since people are unable to select which server to log in on, my lovely North American server is filled with just that, North Americans, and that my friends, isn't as scary. It is however, very annoying. Everyone and their mother cheeses, it's like a daily trip to the dairy farm. Reaper rushes, mass marines, 8 pools, 2gate zealot pushes, dear God the madness!

Don't get me wrong, I don't LOSE to these cheeses, but it's just annoying to have to deal with. Why can't we bring back the good ole days of maxing out supply then going to all-out war? Good times.

Also Reapers, dear God are they stupid. Back in Beta, when the upgrades were 100/100, it wasn't as bad, but now the upgrade is 50/50 and you can get them sub-5 minutes? Simply ridiculous. One reaper 2-3 shots a worker, and they get bonus damage to buildings? Sure the 1.1 patch made the delay 5 seconds longer, but they're still vexing. Lately, I've been playing a few games where people go mass reapers, I don't understand people sometimes.

Bring back dragoons. GG nore.

Diary of an Amateur Gamer

I enjoy playing video games. Competitive computer ones. Counter-Strike, Starcraft, Dota, Warcraft, the list goes on. I like to think I'm good at these games, but I am not. This blog will be an archive of my victories, failures, strategies (or lack thereof), and anything else that may go on in my minuscule existence.

Enjoy.
